INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERS DAY (IVD) 2017 MEDICAL OUTREACH

LOCATION: Igu Community Bwari Area Council, FCT Abuja

Date: 5th December 2017

The International Volunteers Day (IVD) viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organisations to celebrate efforts, share values, and promote humanitarian services among communities, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), United Nations Agencies, Government Authorities and the Private Sector. Celebrates 5th December every Year as its Day. The Theme for this Year is "Volunteers ACT First. Here, Everywhere". This is to recognise the contributions of volunteers as first responders in times of crisis.

To mark this Prestigious Day was a planned Medical Outreach to Igu Community of Bwari Area Council FCT Abuja, found along the Gaba-kawu Road. With majority of the population Farmers, Petty Traders, Hunters and part-time Fishermen. Constituting of Adults, Infants, Toddlers, and Young Adults.

This community has suffered losses to Malaria, in an earlier meeting with the District Head (Village Chief), who revealed that prior to our visit, they had recently lost a Baby and a Mother to the disease. The Conclusion was reached to provide for the Community Mosquito Nets and Pharmaceutical Drugs.

On this Premise the following stakeholders collaborated to make this Happen.

- O‎ffice of the Secretary General of the Federation (OSGF)
- United Nations Volunteers (UNV/UNDP)
- Jummai Aduda Organization (JAO)
- Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) Nigeria.
